MY 1960's ROCK 'n ROLL SCRAP BOOK.. Part 1
By Anita Maijer-Schrot
"Looking back, the year 1964, first year I went to Wigan to visit my penfriend Kathleen Speakman, first year I ever went to England, I was almost 17, was the year which determined my future life, made me different compared to all my schoolmates, one could say 'I never was the same again' in a good sense of course..
The Vaqueros & Julian & The Trolls
In short I came to Wigan of all places.. as my father was a German POW in Wigan. He worked on a farm, he was treated very friendly by the owners, they even became friends.. I was born in 1947 after my father returned from England and I strongly believe I've inherited English genes from my father's time in England? I wanted an English penfriend and my father suggested to write to Jimmy, the bloke from the farm and ask him, if he knew a girl who maybe would like to have a German penfriend? Well, it worked - Kathleen Speakman it was. I even visited my father's friend on his farm when I was in Wigan..
I just had to tell you this to explain why this 'England and Wigan and me and pop music is a life-long-love thing' - I hope you will enjoy my memories from my 1960's scrap book."
