THE TRAKKERS

Wigan

Austin Whittle: Rythmn Guitar. Mick Hannan: Lead Vocal. John Harrison: Drums.

Alan Dwyer: Lead Guitar. Lawrence Whittle: Bass Guitar.

"The Trakkers formed in 1962; all Hindley guys. Sadly only John Harrison drummer and Mick Hannen are still around. Highlight of the Group: Playing at The Cavern twice and on same bill as The Rolling Stones at New Brighton Tower Ballroom as part of the Realbrook Toplin Contest.

Alan Dwyer - lead guitar and Mick Hannen went on to form the group The Frenz who had in its ranks soon-to-be Ipso Facto's Michael 'Mitch' Mitchinson along with Phil Maiden and Thurston 'Jimmy' Hannon. The Frenz played many local venues but mainly played at The Room At the Topopposite the old Market Square bus station in Wigan. Remember them stairs?"

"We had already played at The Cavern during the preliminarys of the competition. At One of the gigs we played on the same bill as the Merseybeats. It was Bass player Johnny Gustavsons first night with The Merseybeats after having been with the Big Three. We had a great night The Merseybeats were really great guys and made us feel at ease.

At the end of the night Bob Wooler told us that we were in the Final 12 and that we would be playing at the New Brighton Tower ballroom with The Rolling Stones being the headline act.
We were over the moon when he told us we couldn't wait to tell all who would listen.

We had to be at the NBT ballroom very early as I remember for a band call. Two stages were set up with the main stage and another one directly underneath. The stage under the main stage would be the one that the finalist would play on. The main one for The Rolling stones.

We had the sound check every group going through a set of disciplines when we were about to finish The Rolling Stones walked across the ballroom floor. They stopped and had a chat to us and a few of the groups we got autographs and a bottle of beer from Charlie Watts.

The night was unbelievable the place was packed to the rafters you couldnt hear nothing for screams I never knew who won the competition. Jimmy Saville compered the night. Our ten minute set consisted of My Babe by Bo Diddley and Only Make Believe. I can't remember the other one or was three the set.

We really enjoyed our night win lose or draw. We picked up a lot of bookings after the New Brighton Tower gig having been support to the The Rolling Stones."

Mick Hannan: June 2010 - March 2012 - January 2013
