THE SWEET LIFE
Dave Melia: Drums. Sheila Holland: Lead Vocal. Geoff Parkinson: Bass Guitar. Bob Ainsworth: Guitar
Around the late 60s early 70s, my wife had just given birth to my son and we had just moved into our first home which was a council flat in Little Hulton.
I don't know what I was thinking about but wanted to use my newly acquired Gibson EBO bass and probably had itchy fingers after a short lay off from playing. The group was the brain child of the lead guitarist - vocalist Bob Ainsworth from Sale and concentrated on The Mama's & The Papa's and The 5th Dimension harmony stuff, which was a challenge to me thanks to my limited vocal range. The band made allowances though and we swapped harmonies to suit. I should have been adept at falsetto having humped a Hammond around for a couple of years in Outrage
Sheila Duguid - stage name Holland who hailed from Aberdeen I believe. On drums was Dave Melia who went on to play in a Mecca band - possibly The Nocturnes and I believe Greengage too.
I got kitted out had pics taken and rehearsed a few times but realised that I had bigger responsibilities at home and the pro-musicians uncertain earning potential wasn't appropriate at that time so went on my merry way to be replaced by Mike Harrison who I believe toured Europe, Turkey and Greece until the group later disbanded.
