THE GONX

Kathy & The Boleros:  Nail-um Down:  Outrage:  Hells Angels:  The Blue Chips:  Green Onions: The Robins:

Pendlebury

Joyce Moore: Vocal. Ken Wallwork: Vocal. Jim Woods. Lead Guitar - Vocal.

Dave Bold: Guitar - Vocals - Harmonica. Geoff Parkinson: Bass Guitar - Vocal.

I was a member around 1963-4. In addtion to the above line-up, was a young Ian Saunders - who's father did most of our transporting and possibly some gig getting too. I think that Ian also may have also played with Shane Fenton/Alvin Stardust's band as did ex Reckless Hearts guitarist Mike Amatt.

This massive adult crowd of up to 15 year olds, is in the church hall in Swinton when we supported The Factotums.

The church has now been demolished along with the registry office in Peel Green where I got married, the Secondary school in Little Hulton - where they tried on that education thing on me, but to no avail and The Pembroke Halls where we played a homecoming gig when we were under the illusion that we had it made with Outrage. Do you think that someone is trying to erase my past?

At The Beehive in Swinton

The Beehive, Horwich was favourite haunt of ours along with Swinton Palias. When we were performing The Kinks song Beautiful Delilah, Jim Woods tucked a hankie into his guitar bridge to dampen down the strings.

At the Drill Hall - Swinton

Ken is sporting a polka dot shirt and Dave and I are striking unacceptable effeminate poses at the Drill Hall at Swinton, which is still in existence and located near the M60 motorway junction.

Local multi-storey flats were being erected on Broad street, Salford, and the other two at Jim's rather luxurious prefab back garden rehearsal room where he had his own kettle, television and record player—LUXURY!!!!!

I only found out recently that when I left the group Joyce more recruited Kenny Beddoes in as my replacement and an ex-member made a point of inferring how much better he was than I—NICE!!! He certainly had a better bass sound as he had the only proper Framus Star bass made which is the one with the pointed cutaway, four-cornered headstock with a star inlay and the chrome scratch plate with built in cream plastic surround pick-ups. This model was also used by Brian Gregg of The Pirates, Shirley Douglas, Jet Harris and local favourites The Rats. I would but one at the drop of a hat but the wife would leave me if I added another to the collection!
Geoff Parkinson: June 2104
