THE COUNTRYMEN

Wigan

^The Countrymen playing at Wigan Emp': Circa 1960.

Ray Taylor: Guitar - Vocal. Phil Bannister: Lead Guitar - Vocal. John Gannon: Lead Vocal.

John Addison: Drums. Alan Liptrot: Bass Guitar: Dorothy Bannister: Vocal.

"My dad owned and ran The Beefeater in King Street and I ran it most evenings of the week. On the 1st floor was the coffee club for members and we had special nights with a small pop group called The Countrymen - and of course the juke box.

There was some dancing but we didn't have a licence for it so had to stop because the police garage was next door but two. Had some smashing times there. A pity it shut down about February 1961."
